Healthy Grocery Shopping
Article by Greg Ellis
According to studies and surveys on children’s diets, the results showed a shocking fact: many children’s diets, even in developed countries, are inadequate. Among the important information gleaned are, for one, many kids shun eating fruit and few veggies. On top of that, calcium and iron intakes are also low and do not reach the required daily amount. Most of the time, these children are often more exposed to artificial snacks and fast foods so they eat these too many times in a day. Because of this, a high portion of children are overweight, although they lack the proper good nutrition to live healthy and illness-free lives. The best way for parents to address this is through healthy grocery shopping. It is very hard to start healthy eating habits unless people begin with healthy food shopping. Parents can help their kids and themselves to stay healthy by changing how they shop and what they buy. Of course, eating healthy food can be more expensive than the regular fast food fare, but it is better to sacrifice a portion of the household budget, or an instant payday loan, than spend it on medical bills in the future. Other than setting aside the budget for healthy grocery shopping, people, particularly parents of young children, could put on their thinking caps and think of effective ways to make the necessary changes. Here are some fast-track shopping tips:· Prioritize the healthy grocery items. Fill the grocery cart with fresh fruits and vegetables first, before reaching for the bag of chips or bottle of soda. Follow it up with breads and cereals, fish, poultry, meat, and dairy products. By the time shoppers have gone over the list of healthy items, maybe only a few dollars are left for the splurge on non-healthy items.· Pick fresh produce. It is important to emphasize a change in this habit. Instead of filling the cart with loads of canned goods, buy and store only a few canned, packaged, and frozen foods. These products are packed with more fat, sugar, salt, and other synthetic chemicals.· Take small steps to change shopping and eating habits. Start from one step first, like eating more fresh fruits than candies or chocolates. Another example is to switch from whole milk to low-fat milk. Once it becomes a habit, one can move on to the next step. The most important thing to remember in changing grocery habits to a healthy one is never shop on a hungry stomach. Eat something healthy first, like an apple, before shopping for food. Backed by a good initial food budget from payday advances, the key is changing an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy way of life.
