Almost everyone can relate to living in a rental property that just doesn’t feel like home. Whether it’s because of bad paint choices, hard to regulate temperatures, bad water pressure or something else, it makes it to difficult to settle in. Some aspects of a bad rental property are unable to change, while others can be altered to make living in the space much more bearable, and even enjoyable!

A relatively cheap way to make your bathroom feel like home is to purchase a new shower head. By saving the rental property shower head in a closet or drawer, you can replace it when you move out and bring yours with you. Whether you choose to purchase a shower head with many water pressure functions and jet styles or simply a standard rotating shower head that removes from a hook to be held in the hand, a new shower head can create a big difference in enjoying your rental bathroom. The many styles and functions available for shower heads mean you are able to choose exactly the one that fits your taste and budget.

Changing the shower head is only one way to make your rental feel like your own. Changing your futon covers to match the paint or other decor, switching out light fixtures or hardware, integrating curtains and adding wall art are some other ideas to improve the look and feel of the place you are renting. While many of these changes are simple, they make a big difference in improving an apartment’s level of comfort.

Get Out Of Debt – Top Tips On How To Cut The Cost Of Your Shopping

Article by Andy Jon

It is a proven fact that we spend far too much on unnecessary food and drink items that we don’t really need. Most of the time all we are achieving is to line the pockets of the supermarket giants. They want you to buy as much as possible so how can we save money to help us ultimately get out of debt?

We all could do with a lesson in spending when it comes to food shopping. We buy far too any unnecessary items but the supermarket stores are clever in the way they market their items. With buy-one-get-one-free promotions and the like, you can see why you go in for a carton of milk and come out with a whole trolley load. Learn how to control and manage what you spend on your food and you will be able to get out of debt.

So what things can we do to try to adjust our spending habits?

For example, buy cheaper cuts of meat. Yes it might not taste quite as nice but when you owe thousands and are in debt then cutbacks need to be made. Buy loose vegetables and avoid pre-packaged vegetables as they are a lot cheaper. Buy local food in season as it is cheaper to do so rather than buying food that has been transported halfway across the world.

Try to cut out meat completely for a couple of days a week – it can save you money. Check out the supermarket’s delicatessen counter. You will find loose cheese, cold meats and other deli items at lower prices than expensive pre-packed goods in store.

If you really want to save money then avoid the branded items and go for the cheaper alternative. This could be another brand or just the supermarket’s own branded label. The food is still good – a supermarket is not going to put their name on something that is not of reasonable quality. When you are trying to get out of debt – drastic action needs to be taken and this includes a significant change in overall shopping habits.

Of course you could shop online. This is a great way to budget as your shopping basket is added up immediately – as soon as you add an item to it, the total is visible before you pay. So you know exactly how much it is going to cost and if you go over your budget, simply put back some items. It is far more difficult to do this whilst actually walking around a supermarket store – unless you take a calculator around with you and add up every single item.

Remember, supermarket stores want you to spend your money with them. But when you are trying to get out of debt you need to budget and be sensible so be one step ahead and keep your hard earned cash in your pocket.

Having to put Food Costs ahead of Quality in a Recession isn’t Acceptable

Article by Alison Withers

Copyright (c) 2010 Alison Withers

It’s been a difficult couple of years for shoppers struggling to make ends meet while various global forces have buffeted food prices.

So how have food shopping habits changed over this period? What has been the impact on the growing trend for natural, healthier foods and can anything be done to make food prices less volatile?

Oil price rises in early 2008 had a major impact on food prices – both because of the increased costs to farmers of producing them, plus increased costs of packaging materials and of transporting to the shops.

Alarm signals began to sound about food security and food scarcity in some parts of the world with large populations already living in extreme poverty and less able to absorb rising costs.

It was noticed in the more prosperous parts of the world, like the USA, that shoppers were becoming more aggressive in buying products on special offer.

Particularly in staple commodities like milk, bread, meats, coffee and cheese where there is less of a perceived difference between branded and private label quality they were also beginning to trade down to private label and value brand.

Then, in the autumn of 2008 came the credit crunch and by June 2009 the BBC was reporting that in the UK “one of the first things we’ve tried to cut back on is our spending on food”.

Over the previous year food prices had risen by 8% and people had cut back on eating out in favour of staying in and cooking from scratch.

Local independent shops were reportedly receiving £50million less in sales and organic food sales were down 11% year on year.

While it was clear that organic and locally-produced foods – perceived traditionally to be more expensive – might be a loser the picture has turned out to be mixed.

For the year 2009 consultancy and research firm Organic Monitor estimated overall growth on organics in Europe was between 2 and 6 per cent, a drop from the double-digit growth rates of previous years but still unusually strong for a premium priced category.

Within Europe there were significant differences between countries. According to the recession’s severity growth rates varied with organic sales worst hit in the UK and Spain – countries which were both badly affected by the recession, so consumers traded down to ordinary products and switched to cheaper retailers where organics have a weaker presence.

In Nov 2009, according to data compiled by the Steel Can Recycling Information Bureau, consumers suffering under the credit crunch were also eating 20% more canned food and drink than in 2007. Figures from Mintel highlighted a sales rise, with canned food worth £718m in the UK, with a predicted rise to £792m by 2012.

In the US and UK shoppers were also choosing cheaper cuts of meat with 40% of shoppers saying they had changed the way they purchase meat and poultry compared with before the recession.

So where are we now?

Although the recession is said to be officially over in most places people who have lost their jobs or gone onto part time working are still feeling the after-effects.

In the year to March 2010, UK food prices rose 1.2 per cent year-on-year, according to the British Retail Consortium’s price index.

One factor that put upward pressure on prices was the return of VAT to 17.5 per cent on 1 January 2010. But also commodity price changes put upward pressure on food retail prices as fuel prices and packaging material costs increased.

In December 2009 The Food Channel predicted that a top food trend for 2010 would be for consumers to focus on buying pure, simple, clean and sustainable basic ingredients and shift from convenience foods to scratch cooking

Despite the rise in food prices there are signs that people are buying organic again. This year organic sales are expected to creep back up by 2-5%, according to the Soil Association’s Organic Market Report 2010.

The squeeze on farmers to produce more at lower costs continues, meanwhile, and the EU has approved a &pound20million farming crisis fund to give limited amounts of aid of up to €15,000 (£13,214) to UK farmers affected by the economic crisis until 31 December 2010.

So the pressure is still on to find more sustainable ways of farming to satisfy both consumer demand for healthy, natural, chemical – free food and the farmers’ need to increase production in a sustainable way that preserves the quality of their land allows them to earn a reasonable living.

The CEO of the main US-based company researching and developing low-chem agricultural products has agreed on record that organic is currently a “middle class” option and he believes natural, healthy foods should be available affordably to everyone.

One way to achieve all this may lie in the new generations of biopesticides, biofungicides and yield enhancers that companies like his are increasingly developing to replace the older and more damaging chemical agricultural products being taken off the market.

£2billion shopping spree today
Food Shopping
An astonishing three-quarters of all the motorists in Britain will drive to a shop. And Morrisons forecast that 12.44pm today will be the busiest minute of the year for food shopping. Analysts Synovate say high street sales could top the £2.5billion …

Food Shopping question by Aileen HK: Hong Kong – other than shopping, food, the peak, ocean park, have you ever found that it is a romantic city?
Will you share what your romantic experiences you had here in Hong Kong with us? Where to? How did you arrange it? For proposal of a marriage? or just dinner? Any good spots for dating which impressed you most? Is Hong Kong a good choice for Honeymoon trip?

I’m tried of people asking – food, shopping, Ocean Park, etc., what else we can do here in this cosmotalitan city?
Oh.. I was sleepy.. typo.. “cosmopolitan”, I forgot that I have posted this question last night..!!!! gssss!

Food Shopping best answer:

Answer by shuk-yin
the romantic public places may not be safe in HK. Try the seashore along the city center on both side of the harbour, i.e. the 2 star ferry terminals on the HK side and Kowloon side in the evening after it gets dark. The horbour is beautiful with reasonable no. of people to be safe yet still romantic. The seabreeze makes you feel great. If you are on the Kowloon side, they may still have the musical laser show around 8 pm on the HK side and you can see it only on the Kowloon side. It was there about 2 years ago, maybe they still have that. Google it. Another place you can go to is an island called Cheung Zhow (or sound like that), you have to take a ferry from HK Star Ferry. It’s like HK in the 50s, no cars, older buildings ,more rural like. The resturant on top of Tai Ping Shan, (you can take either the peak tram or the local bus to go up) is good only if there’s some north winds to blow away the polutted air so you can see the harbour below you, orelse, it’s hazy and not so great!

Getting chipped

On-line food coupons: saves some time and cash

Article by Donna Gorila

If you’re looking for printable food coupons, you’re certainly on the proper track to saving cash.

You can discover printable food coupons for perishable and non-perishable foods. Some are specific to specific food shops, or department stores, and some are particular to particular brand names and could be used just about anywhere. You are able to discover coupons with short lead times for expiration and ones that have a great deal of time available and you are able to often print several copies of them as well to use on double and triple coupon days which will allow you to save even much more cash.

Going to the food store has gotten a lot more costly lately. The price of basic foods like rice and wheat have surged all over the world. Stores like Costco have even began rationing bags of rice. And the falling value of the dollar has created imports more expensive. If you’re not careful, your weekly food bill could be growing.

Here are some tips for keeping your food expenses under control:

Read your receipts. After you shop, audit your food receipt to see what may be much more costly than you thought. I as soon as had a co-worker who was unknowingly paying for small bags of marcona almonds for 3 months prior to noticing it on his receipt. Use by-the-ounce costs to obtain the best deal. Most food stores post per ounce costs that make it simple to compare. That 2-for-1 deal on olives might not compare to the value of a larger sized can. Shop for in-season create. Don’t purchase peaches in December. Seasonal create is usually cheaper. You can also discover really good deals at a nearby farmer’s marketplace. Get creative. Beans and potatoes can be used as an extremely inexpensive base for tasty meals. And frozen juice concentrate is cheaper than bottled options. Do not waste. Only buy fresh foods which you know you’ll eat prior to they go poor. Or start freezing additional supplies. Keep in mind that a “2 for ” deal doesn’t mean that you need to purchase two of the items. The .50 cost is generally available if you just purchase one. Cook from scratch. Processed foods are frequently more costly than their homemade alternatives. Find coupons on-line. These direct coupons offer truly great deals – not just a couple of pennies off. Use a credit card to earn rewards or cash back on your food purchases. Some credit cards offer unique rewards for food store charges.

The cost of food is affected by many various elements. For example, higher gas prices ultimately trickle down to food transportation expenses. If there is a bad season for crops, food prices go up. There’s little to do about costs, but one can discover grocery coupons on-line, and this can save a great deal of money. Here are some ideas that might be of assist.

In the event you do an on-line search, you’ll turn up an excellent many web sites. Some of them offer numerous different savings on many different items. You’ll have to sign up for the service, and most of them are free of charge. Nevertheless, if you don’t wish to obtain lots of emails, make sure to mention that inside your e-mail preferences.

You’ll also need a printer for your pc. Numerous of these services let you look via all of their products and choose the ones to print. It is then an easy matter of pointing and clicking, to print out every coupon that you want.

Be on the lookout for on-line discussion groups. You may have to do some searching, but having a small effort, you are able to turn up some very great discussion groups for coupon savings. You can meet individuals that are looking for the same kind of savings as you. Frequently times, they’ll post messages with Internet links for a particular coupon or promotion.

In the event you sign up at the discussion group, you are able to leave messages and questions. Generally someone will answer your questions, and may offer you with some very great information. However, this kind of format is not instant, and it can sometimes take days or weeks to get a reply.

Obtaining companies food coupons correct from the items maker will be the surest way of discovering the coupons you require. Receiving no price producer food coupons does think about some effort. Nevertheless, the operate will spend off in the type of hundreds of dollar each and each and every 12 months you’ll conserve on your meals bill with no cost coupons for food. At the precise exact same time, you will be helping the product’s producer to create the item you like that significantly greater.
